In some cases, it is cheaper to purchase a brand new (CI friendly) printer, and a CI system for what a set of replacement ink cartridges for your current printer will cost. The older the printer, the more 3rd party options you have for printing. Cartridges with all CI systems have resettable page-count-chips on all cartridges. Systems come charged with ink, about 45-60 cartridges worth, dye based ink.

Instead of replacing expensive printer cartridges every 4-6 weeks, why not choose a more a cost-effective method of printing - the continuous inking system (CIS) - never buy another inkjet cartridge, and never *need* another inkjet cartridge in the middle of a print job (cartridges auto or manually reset). A continuous inking system (CIS) consists of two parts - a set of dummy cartridges that fit into the printer cartridge slots, and an external ink supply system. The ink actually sits outside the printer. The auto, or manual resetting ink tanks are connected to the external ink supply via silicone tubing. Using a continuous inking system (CIS) results in text and color prints prints at a fraction of the cost per page versus purchasing individual OEM (printer brand), or even compatible cartridges. Print for an average of .01 cent per page, and print quality is outstanding. If you are printing more than one ream of paper every 6 weeks or so, a CI System is a perfect choice for you. We have found that Epson inkjet printers work best with continuous inking technology, however there are some exceptions with the Hewlett Packard (HP) Photosmart line, and some Brother, and Canon inkjet printers. It has been our experience that inkjet printers that individual ink cartridges for all colors (for example - cyan, magenta, yellow, black) work best with CI technology. When there is an individual ink tank, it is easier to supply the dummy ink cartridge with a single continuous stream of color of ink. Epson printers have this individual ink cartridge technology, and systems for these printers have been in use for over 10 years, so they are well proven as an alternative to brand name inks.
